There’s literally nothing that puts me in a good mood more than girly time (except a good brunch, so if the two are combined that’s even better) There’s just something about chats, cocktails and good food with the girls that makes you feel great. One of my besties Helen recently organised for 5 of us to get together on a Saturday evening and we had the best time.
We started with a visit to Backyard Cinema to see Beauty and The Beast and it’s such a cool venue! It’s a permanent pop up and at the time of our visit they still had their Miami Beach theme going on. It’s based at Mercato Metropolitano, a vibrant food market which is a great spot in itself, with loads of food and drink stands to explore – you could definitely spend a whole day or evening there.

I came straight from Fashion Week and was wearing my favourite Cara shoe boots by Janiko, however these came straight off at the ‘flip flop station’ and I switched into some fetching neon green flip flops. These were definitely needed once we got inside the cinema as they’ve got really serious about the Miami Beach theme and the floor is sand – definitely not suitable for stilettos!
Screen,sand, boat (and flamingos, obv)
The whole place was fitting with the theme and the Flamingo Beach Bar serves up a variety of cool cocktails as well as popcorn, ice cream and other snacks. We all ordered Pina Coladas and whilst these are really pricey, even for London, at £12 each, they were served in big plastic palm trees which was some consolation (kind of) and a bit of a novelty.

The seating is on bean bags and these were so comfy that I actually fell asleep for part of the film (in my defence, I’ve seen the film twice already and I’d had a really busy day…) At around £17 for a ticket Backyard Cinema is not too much more expensive than a trip to the regular cinema nowadays and it’s definitely a more fun experience. The Miami Beach theme is coming to a close on 6 October but they have just released dates and films for their next season, Snow Kingdom, which sounds just as exciting and opens on 25 October. I’m looking forward to seeing how they pull it off! Listings are here.
After the film ended we headed back out into the market area for a glass of bubbles and then moved onto our dinner reservation at Florentine Restaurant & Bar. Florentine opened in March this year and has come to my attention recently as they have launched a bottomless brunch menu with gin cocktails (and I can’t wait to try it!) I suggested it for our girly dinner and I’m really glad, because it was great!

Inside the restaurant
The staff were so welcoming and the environment in the restaurant is lovely. It feels classy and upmarket but the prices on the menu are still really reasonable. It took me ages (as always) to decide what food to go for but I eventually went for the Baked Shakshouka. This was a good choice as it was gorgeous – a tomato base mixed with loads of aubergine, peppers and onions, served with a duck egg and stone baked bread. I also opted for a side of sautéed spinach which was delicious too (as much as spinach can be, obvs)
Baked Shakshouka – highly recommend!
Two of the girls went for the Roasted Salmon, served with hollandaise and asparagus. This was lovely and went really well with sides of sweet potato (in its jacket) and green beans.
The Burger and Chicken & Avocado Salad were our other choices and there were good reviews all round.
Chicken & Avocado Salad (and a few green beans)
We stuck around at the table for ages after finishing our food, drinking wine and chatting, and the staff were great and never pressured us to leave. A lovely night!
I loved Florentine and I’ll definitely be back soon to tick off the bottomless brunch (They also serve a giant Ostrich egg breakfast to share between 4 which might be on my list too!)
Perfect for: a cinema trip with a fun difference at Backyard Cinema, all day dining at Florentine – the menu features everything from brunch, nibbles, pizza to Sunday roast.
