Al fresco brunch at Flotsam and Jetsam.

I’ve wanted to visit Flotsam and Jetsam for a long time having heard amazing things about their brunch (and you know my feelings on brunch!) If you’re a Little Mermaid fan the name will make you think of Ursula’s evil assistants but it’s also an award winning cafe in Wandsworth. They are always super busy on a weekend and as I’m not a big fan of queuing, or getting up early, I haven’t made it over there until now. My flatmate shares my brunch obsession and when we found that we both had a Friday off, we took the opportunity to head over to try to beat the queue.

Flotsam and Jetsam is located right next to Wandsworth Common and it’s lovely picturesque walk there from our flat.

The cafe was already getting busy when we arrived around 10am but we were lucky enough to grab a free spot on a table outside and were looking forward to getting our brunch fix.

The menu has lots of different brunchy options ranging from sweet pancakes to the all important eggs, with great sounding side orders available to add on, including Ginger Pig sausages, halloumi and avocado.

There’s a great selection of coffee, hot drinks and juices too and I spotted the Unicorn White Hot Chocolate straightaway. We both ordered one and they were special! Sweet and milky with marshmallows and pieces of pink meringue – and gorgeous looking!

I loved it! This was the second time this week I’ve fallen in love with a gorgeous drink, having visited Aida in Shoreditch too and trying one of their beautiful Rose Lattes.

Food wise, I opted for the cutely named Rainbow Bruschetta. This is charcoal sourdough topped with pesto, tomatoes, lemon ricotta, walnuts and a poached egg. I also added halloumi on the side (another one of my faves)

I really enjoyed it and the halloumi tasted amazing! The lemon ricotta tasted slightly strange together with the egg but I still really loved the dish, especially the unusual charcoal sourdough and the different coloured tomatoes. The egg was perfectly runny too – always a winner!

Michelle went for Scott’s Chorizo Scramble – chorizo, shallots and scrambled eggs on focaccia. She’s a halloumi lover too so added some.

The scrambled eggs were perfectly cooked and really fluffy, and this choice is highly recommended!

The food was amazing here. I’ve heard it described as the best brunch in London and can definitely see why there’s a huge queue every weekend! I’ll be heading back to try the rest of the menu very soon and if you’re looking for a lovely brunch  South of the river (with a walk across the Common afterwards) Flotsam and Jetsam is the place to find it. Make sure to try the Unicorn Hot Chocolate, of course!
